Beyond the Stars: Radio Telescopes Revolutionize Space Junk Tracking in Geostationary Orbit
An international collaboration led by Jodrell Bank and MIT has successfully deployed radio telescopes, traditionally used for cosmic observation, to track elusive space debris in high-altitude geostationary orbit. This groundbreaking project, known as Long Baseline Multistatic Radar (LBMR), overcomes the limitations of conventional tracking methods, offering real-time data on hazardous orbital fragments and paving the way for enhanced satellite safety and sustainable space exploration.
